Stability (PPM)
Methodology & Sources
PPM = (Change in Frequency / Nominal Frequency) * 1,000,000. By inputting Nominal in MHz (10^6) and Deviation in Hz, the formula simplifies to Deviation / Nominal.
The underlying formula used is:
Deviation (Hz) / Nominal (MHz)

Frequently Asked Questions
Why divide Hz by MHz?
Because PPM is 10^-6. Since MHz is 10^6 Hz, dividing Deviation (Hz) by Nominal (MHz) naturally cancels out the millions factor.
Example?
20 Hz error on a 10 MHz clock: 20 / 10 = 2 PPM.
